The state-owned company “Vinivin” increased its grape harvest nearly sevenfold

The state-owned company “Vinivin” has harvested more than 950 metric tons of grapes since the start of the 2026 harvest season. This is 6.8 times more than the total for all of last year, when the harvest amounted to just 140 metric tons. The harvest is still ongoing, according to the State Agency for State Property Management.

This sharp increase is primarily due to the restoration of vineyards that had been in poor condition for several years. According to the agency, the previous operators of the vineyards failed to carry out necessary agricultural work for four years, putting the perennial plantings at risk of dying.

However, the current result reflects more than just a recovery in production following last year’s decline. In 2023, the enterprise harvested 620 metric tons of grapes, and in 2024, 540 metric tons. Thus, the 2026 harvest already exceeds the 2023 figure by 53% and the 2024 result by 76%.

The total area of Vinivin’s vineyards is approximately 307 hectares. When compared to the current harvest volume, the average yield is at least 3.1 metric tons per hectare. However, the actual yield of fruit-bearing plots may be higher, as data on the area of vineyards from which the harvest has already been collected is not provided.

More than 100 local residents are involved in the harvest. The company is wholly owned by the state through GAUGI.

The next stage in the enterprise’s development is expected to be the processing of grapes into wine materials. This will enable a transition from the sale of agricultural raw materials to the production of goods with higher added value.

The enterprise’s development is outlined in the state program for horticulture and viticulture for 2025–2029. One of its goals is to reduce the dependence of domestic wineries on imported raw materials, including must and wine base.

GAUGI has already proposed that domestic wine producers consider purchasing raw materials from “Vinivin.”
