Imports continue to dominate Kyrgyzstan’s foreign trade

Imports accounted for 85.6% of Kyrgyzstan’s foreign trade turnover in January–March 2026, whilst exports accounted for 14.4%. These figures were provided by the National Statistics Committee.

According to the published statistics, at the start of the year, the volume of imports remained in positive territory compared to the same period last year. At the same time, exports showed more volatile trends and turned negative in certain months.

Imports remain the main component of the country’s trade turnover. This structure traditionally reflects the Kyrgyz economy’s high dependence on imported goods — ranging from machinery and vehicles to consumer goods and raw materials.

The gap between imports and exports also points to a persistent foreign trade imbalance, which remains one of the key issues for the country’s economy.
