10/08/2026, 18:00A proposal has been put forward in Kyrgyzstan to temporarily restrict apple imports for a period of six months. The initiative aims to support domestic producers and ensure the timely sale of the 2026 harvest.
According to the ministry, a draft decree to this effect is currently being drawn up.
In 2026, Kyrgyzstan is expected to produce around 179,400 tonnes of apples. The total area of fruit-bearing apple orchards across the country stands at 26,300 hectares.
The Ministry noted that during the peak harvest period, the volume of apples on the domestic market increases. A temporary restriction on imports should create conditions for domestic producers to sell the seasonal harvest and reduce potential product losses.
At the same time, when considering the initiative, account will be taken of the need to supply the domestic market with apples and to maintain affordable prices for the public.
The final dates and conditions of any potential restriction will be determined following consideration of the draft resolution.
