Foreigners will not be permitted to lease land near the border or agricultural land

President Sadyr Zhaparov stated in an interview with the ‘Kabar’ news agency that foreign nationals will not be able to lease agricultural land or plots in border regions, even following amendments to the Land Code.

According to him, such land will remain under special state protection. Foreign investors will only be able to lease plots for the construction of factories, logistics centres, energy facilities, tourism projects and other infrastructure.

The possible consequences of the land legislation reform are being discussed within society.

The authorities maintain that the changes are aimed at attracting investment without compromising national security.
