Exports of Kyrgyz tea have fallen by almost half since the start of the year

Between January and May 2026, Kyrgyzstan exported 8.3 tonnes of tea worth $36,000. Compared with the same period last year, the volume of exports has fallen by almost half.

According to statistics from the National Statistics Committee, in the first five months of 2026, Kyrgyzstan exported 8.3 tonnes of tea worth 3.1 million soms ($36,000). Compared with the same period in 2025, the volume of exports amounted to 50.3 per cent of last year’s level.

Exports also fell in value terms. Whilst tea exports for January–May 2025 were valued at 7.3 million soms ($83,500), this year’s figure stood at 3.1 million soms ($36,000). This represents a decrease of 56.7 per cent in som terms and 56.9 per cent in US dollar terms.

Uzbekistan remains the main export destination. During the reporting period, 8.3 tonnes of tea worth approximately $33,000 were shipped there, accounting for the bulk of all exports.

Between January and May 2025, Kyrgyzstan exported 16.5 tonnes of tea worth 7.3 million soms ($83,500). Over the year, the volume of exports fell by almost half, whilst the value of exports fell by more than half.
