02/20/2025, 16:03Seminars on the correct method of growing strawberries were organized for local farmers.
The training was organized as part of the program to support the agricultural sector and was aimed at improving the qualifications of agricultural enterprises. One of the key moments of the seminar was the participation of an international expert breeder, an agronomist from Italy, Franco Zenti. He shared his experience and spoke about the most effective practices for growing strawberries in different climatic zones.
The expert's presentation discussed how to choose varieties, what kind of care should be, how to deal with diseases and pests. The significance of this seminar is that it promotes the introduction of modern agronomic methods into the regional economy, which, in turn, increases the yield and quality of products.
"Unlike its closest neighbors, Kyrgyzstan has huge potential in this sector. We have an ideal climate for berries. Italians came to us and enviously noted our weather conditions, including dry wind. Their air is humid and they have to use fungicides, which puts a certain chemical load on the berries. Of course, there are pests in a dry climate, too, and they need to be dealt with. The main sales market today is Russia and Kazakhstan, but work is underway to expand the coverage. It is planned to start supplying Kyrgyz berries to Mongolia, Qatar, the UAE, Japan, China, the USA, Korea, India and the EU countries,” said Bakyt Mambetov, Director of the Department for Expertise of Agricultural Crops and Horticulture.
During the event, the participants also received practical recommendations on the use of new technologies and the correct method of growing strawberries, and also had the opportunity to ask questions to the expert, discuss specific problems and find solutions that can be implemented on their farms. The seminar was held jointly with the Strawberry Kyrgyzstan company. Farmers from all regions of the country gathered for the seminar.
