05/21/2026, 12:55Kyrgyzstan’s Prime Minister Adylbek Kasymaliev will pay a working visit to Turkmenistan on May 21–22. During the trip, he will take part in a meeting of the Council of Heads of Government of the Commonwealth of Independent States and hold talks with Turkmenistan’s leadership.
The visit comes amid a decline in bilateral trade between the two countries. According to the National Statistics Committee, trade turnover between Kyrgyzstan and Turkmenistan for January–March 2026 amounted to $14.8 million, compared to $18.66 million a year earlier. Thus, the volume of trade decreased by approximately 20.8%.
Kyrgyz exports to Turkmenistan for the quarter totaled $1.67 million, a decrease of approximately 10%. The main export item was railway freight cars. In addition, Kyrgyzstan exported chocolate products, pharmaceuticals, electrical equipment, and certain types of industrial goods.
Imports from Turkmenistan to Kyrgyzstan fell by nearly 22% to $13.1 million. Mineral fuels and petroleum products accounted for the bulk of the imports, totaling over $7.5 million. Kyrgyzstan also imported chocolate products, baked goods, and some industrial goods from Turkmenistan.
At the end of the first quarter, Kyrgyzstan’s trade deficit with Turkmenistan amounted to approximately $11.45 million.
