Kyrgyz beans return to the shelves

After a period of shortage in the capital's markets, Kyrgyz beans are once again available to buyers. The Ministry of Water Resources and Agriculture is purchasing the harvest from farmers to support prices and stimulate domestic production.

The Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture and Processing Industry has begun purchasing beans in the Talas region to support farmers and ensure stable prices for consumers.

Statistics for the first seven months of 2025 show that Iran, Turkey and Russia have become the main buyers of legumes from Kyrgyzstan. The total volume of supplies amounted to 34,202 tonnes worth about 3.34 billion KGS. At the same time, exports to countries such as Serbia, Syria, Afghanistan and Uzbekistan also remain significant.

Against the backdrop of active exports, it is not easy to find local beans on the shelves of Bishkek's hypermarkets — perhaps farmers have encountered difficulties in entering retail chains.

The Ministry of Agriculture's decision to purchase beans may indicate a problem with the sale of local beans (perhaps they are not being exported according to the documents — author's note) or that the ministry has finally noticed that there is a shortage of the product in the country.

In any case, these measures will help to support both domestic production and food security.
