Talas beans could be listed on a commodity exchange and sold via futures contracts

The Kyrgyz Stock Exchange intends to expand its commodity trading. In addition to sugar and molasses, which are already traded on the platform, there are plans to launch a further five sectors in the near future: industrial and consumer goods, petroleum products, gas and energy resources, metal structures, as well as timber and building materials.

This was announced following the signing on 7 October of a memorandum of cooperation between the Kyrgyz Stock Exchange and the Kyrgyz Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The document was signed by the exchange’s Chief Executive, Aida Chodulova, and the Chamber’s President, Temir Sariev.

The parties intend to work together to help entrepreneurs enter the organised commodities market, utilise exchange-traded instruments and attract investment.

Chodulova linked the further development of this area to the Law ‘On Commodity Exchanges’, adopted in August 2026. According to her, the new regulations should broaden businesses’ access to exchange trading and create a more transparent mechanism for price formation.

“The exchange mechanism ensures transparent pricing based on real supply and demand, as well as the reliable execution of transactions and the safeguarding of funds,” noted the head of the exchange.

A separate area of cooperation between the KFB and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry will focus on the agricultural sector. Sariyev noted that exchange-traded instruments can help producers lock in the terms of future sales in advance and reduce uncertainty regarding sales.

“Take, for example, bean producers in the Talas Region – they need a firm guarantee that their harvest will be sold at a fair price. Trading on a commodity exchange and pre-arranged futures contracts provide precisely that certainty,” he said.

The collaboration between the two organisations will also include educational events and business forums, support for entrepreneurs using the electronic trading platform, and the preparation of proposals for tax breaks and other incentives for trading participants.
