Kyrgyzstan and Albania are seeking new avenues for growth: trade turnover currently stands at just $69,800

The President of Albania, Bayram Begaj, is in Kyrgyzstan today on an official visit. He was met at Issyk-Kul International Airport by President Sadyr Zhaparov. Following the official welcoming ceremony and a review of the guard of honour, the two sides will hold talks on the development of bilateral cooperation.

Bayram Begaj’s visit marks the first official visit by an Albanian president to Kyrgyzstan in the entire history of diplomatic relations between the two countries. Diplomatic ties between Bishkek and Tirana were established around 30 years ago, but high-level contacts have remained limited until now.

The heads of state are expected to discuss issues of bilateral and multilateral cooperation, as well as prospects for collaboration in the fields of the economy, agriculture, tourism, transport and digitalisation.

Despite the modest level of interaction, certain areas of common interest between the countries already exist. According to foreign trade statistics, in 2025 Kyrgyzstan exported dried pulses, honey, meat products and petroleum products to Albania. For its part, Albania supplied Kyrgyzstan with seedlings and other live plants, paper products, clothing and automotive components.

Investment ties are also still at an early stage. Only four companies with Albanian capital are registered in Kyrgyzstan. All of them were established in 2024.

Against the backdrop of relatively modest trade and investment volumes, the current visit could serve as a starting point for expanding economic cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and Albania.
