Kyrgyzstan and China open new air link in Naryn region

On August 20, Kyrgyzstan and China signed an agreement to open a new air checkpoint in the Naryn region.

Currently, there is one air checkpoint between the two countries, located in the Karakol area. The new checkpoint, located south of Naryn, will become an additional route for passenger and cargo air transportation.

According to the Ministry of Transport and Aviation Authorities, the opening of the new point will reduce flight times, improve safety, and simplify air navigation. The mountains in the Naryn area are lower than in the Karakol area, making the routes more convenient for international flights.

The project is seen as part of the “Air Silk Road” strategy, which is being implemented with the support of President Sadyr Zhaparov. It also includes the construction of a China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway, the construction of a modern airport in Jalal-Abad, and the expansion of international routes.

Prior to signing the agreement, experts from Kyrgyzstan and China conducted a series of air navigation studies. A Beechcraft-360 aircraft flew the route to check radio communications and radar coverage. The Chinese side confirmed its readiness to open the point as early as October this year.

The authorities note that the launch of the new air traffic control point will strengthen Kyrgyzstan's transit potential, create opportunities for passenger and cargo traffic, and connect the major Chinese cities of Kashgar and Urumqi with the regions of Central Asia.
