Kyrgyzstan and China sign key agreements in digitalization, industry, and logistics

On the sidelines of the Central Asia-China summit in Astana on June 17, a meeting was held between the President of the Kyrgyz Republic, Sadyr Zhaparov, and the President of the People's Republic of China, Xi Jinping. One of the main outcomes of the talks was the signing of a package of agreements covering several strategic areas.

    • Support for the water sector — a letter of exchange was signed on the supply of specialized equipment for the Water Resources Service. The project will be financed and implemented with the participation of the Chinese side.
    • Artificial intelligence and digitalization — the parties agreed to establish a Center for Cooperation on the Application of AI between China and the SCO member states. This agreement could be a step towards digital transformation within the framework of broader regional integration.
    • Industrial cooperation — agreements have been reached on joint initiatives in the processing industry, including through direct interaction with the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of the PRC.
    • Border medicine — the parties signed an agreement on sanitary control and quarantine measures, which is important in the context of the development of logistics corridors and tourism.
    • Media cooperation — agreements between the Kabar and Xinhua agencies, as well as publishing houses of the two countries, will open additional channels for the promotion of projects and cultural interaction.

President Sadyr Zhaparov emphasized that China remains one of Kyrgyzstan's largest investment partners. According to him, the February visit to Beijing and the signing of a number of basic agreements have already begun to bear fruit, including the launch of construction of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway.
