Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan ratified an agreement on access to water and energy facilities

The President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov signed the law on ratification of the Agreement between the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan on ensuring access to water and energy facilities. The document was signed on 13 March 2025 in Bishkek and approved by the Jogorku Kenesh on 19 March.

The agreement is aimed at ensuring unimpeded access to water and energy infrastructure facilities located on the territory of both countries, as well as their joint operation. In particular, the parties agreed to jointly manage the head dam with three gates and the water intake structure of the Ak-Tatyr/Machoi canal.

The ratification of the document was another step in regulating transboundary water use between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, ensuring the sustainable operation of key hydro-technical facilities.
