Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan intend to increase trade turnover to $2 billion by 2030

The 12th meeting of the Joint Kyrgyz-Uzbek Intergovernmental Commission on Bilateral Cooperation was held in Cholpon-Ata in both its core and expanded formats.

The meeting was co-chaired by the Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Adylbek Kasymaliev, and the Prime Minister of Uzbekistan, Abdulla Aripov.

It was noted at the meeting that, thanks to the leaders of both countries, political cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan will continue to expand in the interests of both nations. At the same time, joint projects and initiatives in the trade, economic, investment, energy and cultural-humanitarian spheres are being actively promoted; inter-regional cooperation is developing; and the agreements set out in the relevant ‘roadmaps’ are being successfully implemented.

Prime Minister Adylbek Kasymaliev emphasised that Kyrgyzstan attaches particular importance to deepening trade and economic cooperation with Uzbekistan, noting the steady growth in bilateral trade in this area.

“By the end of 2025, trade turnover between our countries had exceeded $1 billion, representing a 19 per cent increase compared with 2024. I would like to emphasise that it has doubled over the last five years. Together, we have set ourselves an ambitious but achievable goal — to increase the volume of bilateral trade to $2 billion by 2030”, — said Adylbek Kasymaliev.

The need was also highlighted to revitalise the activities of the Kyrgyz-Uzbek Development Fund, which is successfully implementing mutually beneficial projects, and to increase its authorised capital in accordance with the agreements reached.

“We propose that particular attention be paid to industrial cooperation and joint industrial projects. We support the creation of joint industrial parks and logistics complexes, as well as the development of mechanisms for state support of such projects. Furthermore, we advocate the establishment of a joint inter-ministerial working group to develop a programme for agro-industrial cooperation up to 2030”, — noted the Prime Minister.

During the meeting, it was emphasised that cooperation in the transport sector remains a key factor in economic integration. In particular, the China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan railway construction project is currently underway, which is set to become the modern ‘Silk Road’ of the 21st century. Close coordination is also continuing on the implementation of a strategically important energy project — the construction of the Kambarata Hydroelectric Power Station No. 1.

For his part, the Prime Minister of Uzbekistan, Abdulla Aripov, stated that today’s talks were aimed at implementing specific projects for the benefit of the brotherly peoples of Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan, and emphasised that the Uzbek side is always ready and keen to engage in such cooperation.

At the conclusion of the meeting, following the talks, the Protocol of the 12th meeting of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Bilateral Cooperation between the Kyrgyz Republic and the Republic of Uzbekistan was signed.
