Kyrgyzstan seeks alternatives to fertilisers amid global supply disruptions

On 3 April, a meeting took place between Marsbek uulu Ilich, First Deputy Minister of Water Resources, Agriculture and Processing Industry of Kyrgyzstan, and representatives of the Belarusian company ‘Biostim’, which specialises in the production of organo-mineral fertilisers based on amino acids.

During the talks, the parties discussed product supplies, testing and the potential introduction of these developments into the country’s agricultural sector. Particular attention was paid to the prospect of localising production in Kyrgyzstan. It is expected that this will improve the availability of fertilisers for farmers and reduce dependence on imports. Following the meeting, an agreement was reached to continue joint work.

The talks are taking place against the backdrop of an unstable external environment, which is already affecting the progress of the sowing campaign. Spring field work in Kyrgyzstan this year is being hampered by logistical disruptions and growing uncertainty in the fertiliser market.
