Kyrgyzstan is exploring the possibility of engaging Rosgeo for joint geological exploration

At the second meeting of the Kyrgyz-Russian Working Group on Cooperation in Geology and Subsoil Use, held in Bishkek, an important item on the agenda was the prospects for cooperation with Rosgeo JSC, a leading Russian state-owned company in the field of geological exploration.

The Kyrgyz delegation was led by Marat Zhusupbekov, Deputy Minister of Natural Resources, Ecology and Technical Supervision of the Kyrgyz Republic, and the Russian delegation was led by Aslambek Germakhanov, Deputy Head of Rosnedr.

The meeting took place in a constructive and businesslike atmosphere. The parties confirmed their mutual interest in expanding cooperation in the field of geological exploration, subsoil use and environmental protection, and discussed the progress of implementing the decisions taken at the first meeting of the working group.

Nine issues were on the agenda, including:

  • changes in the regulatory framework for subsoil use in Kyrgyzstan and Russia;
  • prospects for Russian companies' participation in mining projects in Kyrgyzstan;
  • the development of cooperation with Rosgeo JSC on geological exploration;
  • the use of modern technologies for the study of gold deposits;
  • the strengthening of the laboratory and analytical base and the conduct of joint research between the Institute of Geology of the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Karpinsky Institute (Russian Federation).

Particular attention was paid to the approval of the Medium-Term Programme of Kyrgyz-Russian Cooperation in the Field of Geology and Subsurface Use for 2025-2027.

It was decided to hold the next meeting of the working group in 2026.

By that time, the parties intend to prepare a plan for the practical implementation of joint geological exploration projects and determine a list of priority deposits for detailed study.
