    Kyrgyzstan may join the international convention on private employment agencies

    On 14 April, the Committee on Social Policy of the Jogorku Kenesh approved the first reading of the bill on ratification of the International Labour Organization (ILO) Convention No. 181. The document concerns the regulation of private employment agencies.

    Deputies supported the initiative, but also stressed the importance of strengthening control over the work of agencies that send Kyrgyz citizens to work abroad. MP Chingiz Azhibayev drew attention to cases of deception and the need to ensure the transparency of their activities. Nurbek Sydygaliyev recalled complaints about the return of money in case of failure to fulfil conditions. And Zhyldyz Sadyrbaeva noted that of the CIS countries only Moldova has joined the Convention so far.

    Committee Chairwoman Vinera Raimbachayeva added that one of the goals is to protect the rights of migrant workers, especially in Russia.

    According to the Ministry of Labour, 197 private employment agencies are officially registered in Kyrgyzstan.
