09/14/2026, 12:04The Kyrgyz Cabinet of Ministers has introduced a temporary ban on the export of cattle, horses, sheep and goats. The restriction will remain in force for six months.
Between January and June 2026, 14,823 head of cattle worth $3.2 million were exported from Kyrgyzstan. The entire consignment was sent to Uzbekistan. Compared with last year, exports rose by 32 per cent.
Also, over the six-month period, 194 horses, donkeys, mules or hinnies were exported, worth $84,800. The majority – 170 animals – were sent to Uzbekistan, with a further 24 going to Kazakhstan.
No sheep or goats were exported in 2026. A year earlier, during the same period, 10,030 head were exported, worth $981,400.
The ban does not apply to transit shipments, racehorses, horses exported as gifts, pedigree sheep, animals not reared in Kyrgyzstan, or horses transported by air and donkeys.
Decree No. 607 was adopted on 10 September 2026 and comes into force on the date of its official publication.
