This was stated by Mederbek Tumanov, Deputy Minister of Economy and Commerce of the Kyrgyz Republic, at a session of the SPECA Economic Forum.
According to him, the lack of direct access to the sea has historically limited the economic potential of countries in the region; however, today the development of transport corridors between China, the South Caucasus, and Europe is opening up new prospects for expanding international trade.
Among Kyrgyzstan’s priority infrastructure projects, Tumanov cited the construction of the China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan railway, which is set to become part of the regional transport network.
He also reported on the development of road infrastructure. In particular, construction has begun on the Barskoon–Uchturfan highway, approximately 150 kilometers long, aimed at expanding transportation links with China.
According to the deputy minister, approximately $500 million was allocated for road infrastructure development in 2025.
Tumanov paid special attention to the need to develop not only physical infrastructure but also so-called “soft infrastructure.” This refers to simplifying customs and transit procedures, digitizing transportation, harmonizing the regulatory framework, and removing administrative barriers.
He emphasized that Kyrgyzstan is also interested in diversifying its transportation routes, including the development of air service.
