Kyrgyzstan Proposed to Austria That It Open a Branch of One of Its Banks in the Country

President Sadyr Japarov proposed that Austria consider the possibility of opening a branch of one of its banks in Kyrgyzstan. The two sides also discussed establishing correspondent banking relationships between banks in both countries.

The proposal was made on September 22 in New York during a meeting between Zaparov and Austrian Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen.

According to Zaparov, direct ties between banks in Kyrgyzstan and Austria could create additional opportunities for expanding trade and investment. The Austrian President expressed his willingness to consider the proposals and said he would forward them to the Austrian Ministry of Finance for review.

The parties also discussed trade, economic, and investment cooperation, as well as collaboration within the framework of the UN Security Council.

Zaparov proposed holding the next meeting of the Kyrgyz-Austrian Intergovernmental Commission in Bishkek in 2027. In addition, he invited Van der Bellen to participate in the Second Global Mountain Summit “Bishkek+25,” which will take place in Bishkek in October 2027 under the auspices of the United Nations.
