04/27/2026, 13:04Kyrgyzstan began 2026 with a decline in registered unemployment. As of January 1, the number of officially registered unemployed stood at 38,200. This is 24.9% lower than a year earlier, according to official data.
As a result, the number of citizens registered with employment services as job seekers fell by 20%—to 56,500 people. The registered unemployment rate as a percentage of the total labor force stood at 1.3%. However, the overall decline masks a mixed regional picture.
The highest number of registered unemployed remains in the southern regions—in the Osh region (10,100 people) and the Jalal-Abad region (10,000). By comparison, only 1,300 people are registered in the Chui region, and just over 1,000 in the Naryn region.
At the same time, the rate of decline also varies. In Chui Province, the number of registered unemployed fell by 41.7% over the year, in Batken Province by 38.6%, and in Osh Province by 27.7%.
But there is an exception. The city of Osh became the only area where the number of registered unemployed increased—by 7.8% year-over-year. This stands out from the nationwide trend.
The National Statistics Committee notes that nearly half of the registered unemployed, 46%, are women.
