Kyrgyzstan aims to become a major tourism hub

Prime Minister Adylbek Kasymaliev has stated that Kyrgyzstan intends to transform the SCO region into one of the world’s leading tourism hubs.

Adylbek Kasymaliev spoke at the opening of the BITF-2026 exhibition in Bishkek. According to him, the country will promote a unified tourism area within the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, simplify visa procedures and develop transport corridors. Emphasis is also being placed on environmental standards and the development of mountain tourism. Among the projects are tourism clusters in Chatkal and Chok-Tal, an investment zone in Tamchy and the ‘Ala-Too’ project.

In 2026, Kyrgyzstan will hold the SCO presidency and is actively promoting the tourism agenda on the international stage.

Earlier, at Kyrgyzstan’s initiative, the UN declared 2023–2027 the Five-Year Period for the Development of Mountain Regions. The authorities are banking on tourism as one of the key drivers of the economy and a means of attracting investment.
