Kyrgyzstan launches the Kelechek alternative tunnel project at the Too-Ashuu Pass

Today, 2 December, a public-private partnership agreement was signed between the Ministry of Transport and Communications of the Kyrgyz Republic, the National Investment Agency under the President of the Kyrgyz Republic and a consortium of companies led by Tez Zhol LLC. The aim of the project is to build an alternative Kelechak tunnel on the Too-Ashuu pass, which will improve transport accessibility in the region.

The new 11.5 km tunnel will be located at an altitude of about 2,200 metres and will ensure year-round safe traffic. It will become a key transport infrastructure facility, reducing the risk of road closures due to bad weather and improving logistics between regions.

The project also includes the construction of two toll stations, two small hydroelectric power plants with a total capacity of 31.3 MW, and a modern tunnel management system. The initiative is designed to stimulate investment in the region, create jobs, and improve safety on one of the country's busiest mountain passes.
