09/09/2026, 18:01China is prepared to continue its efforts to simplify travel for Kyrgyz citizens. This was stated by Liu Jiangping, the Chinese Ambassador to the Kyrgyz Republic, during a meeting with journalists.
According to her, over the course of the year, the issue of creating more favourable conditions for mutual travel has been discussed on numerous occasions by representatives of both countries. China has already unilaterally extended two visa-free schemes to Kyrgyz citizens.
“If citizens continue to face any inconveniences, we will endeavour to do even more. We are ready and open to this,” emphasised Liu Jiangping.
From 20 August 2026, Kyrgyz citizens will be able to take advantage of a 240-hour visa-free transit through China. This requires a standard passport and a ticket with a confirmed itinerary to a third country or region. Entry is permitted via one of 65 designated border crossing points, including Beijing and Shanghai.
The second scheme allows Kyrgyz citizens to stay in Hainan Province for up to 30 days without a visa. It applies to tourist and business trips, visits to relatives and other short-term visits.
However, neither scheme constitutes a full abolition of visas between Kyrgyzstan and China. A Chinese visa is still required for work, study, journalistic activities and other purposes requiring prior approval.
The Ambassador also noted that the development of air links between the two countries should contribute to a further increase in mutual travel. The terms and conditions of the visa-free arrangements are published on the official website of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China.
