China plans to create over 12 million jobs in 2026

Ambassador Liu Jiangping outlined China’s economic policy guidelines for 2026 following the annual ‘Two Sessions’ – the National People’s Congress and the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference. Key indicators point to a course of moderate growth whilst maintaining macroeconomic stability and strengthening structural reforms.

According to the data presented, GDP growth in 2026 is planned to be kept within the range of 4.5–5%. The urban unemployment rate is expected to be around 5.5%, with the authorities aiming to create more than 12 million new jobs.

Inflation targets remain modest: consumer price inflation is forecast to be within 2%. Household incomes are expected to grow in line with the economy, indicating an attempt to balance domestic demand and investment activity.

Maintaining a balanced balance of payments is also listed among the priorities. Grain production is expected to reach around 700 billion kg, underscoring the focus on food security. At the same time, plans have been announced to reduce carbon dioxide emissions per unit of GDP by approximately 3.8%.
