Chinese investor to build $140 million waste processing plant in Karakol

Prime Minister Adylbek Kasymaliyev took part in a ceremony to lay the foundation stone for the construction of a solid waste processing plant in the city of Karakol.

According to the head of the Cabinet of Ministers, large investment projects are being implemented in Kyrgyzstan to improve the environmental situation and the quality of life of the population through the production of electricity from waste processing.

The investor is the Chinese company Hunan Junxin Huanbao, which, together with Kyrgyz partners, is implementing two more similar projects in Bishkek and Osh.

The project, worth about $140 million, is being implemented as part of the state strategy to develop a “green economy” and improve the environmental situation in the country.

“The green economy has become a symbol of our time. The construction of an ecological technology plant for waste processing and electricity generation is an important step towards sustainable development. This project will significantly improve the environmental situation in the region,” Kasymaliyev said.

The first phase of the project involves the construction of technological power plants in the Ak-Suu district and the city of Balykchy, which will be able to process up to 600 tons of waste per day. In the future, the investor intends to expand capacity by adding new processing lines depending on the volume of waste in the Issyk-Kul region and neighboring areas.

At the end of his speech, Adylbek Kasymaliyev expressed confidence that this project would strengthen friendly relations between Kyrgyzstan and China and contribute to the development of the Issyk-Kul region.
