The Housing Committee approved a bill to rename Jalal-Abad to Manas in three readings

At its meeting today, 9 September, the Committee on Constitutional Legislation, State Structure, Judicial and Legal Issues and Regulations of the Jogorku Kenesh considered and approved the draft law of the Kyrgyz Republic ‘On renaming the city of Jalal-Abad in the Jalal-Abad region to the city of Manas’ in three readings.

The information was presented by Kudaibergen Bazarbayev, Director of the State Agency for Civil Service and Local Self-Government under the Cabinet of Ministers.

According to him, the bill was developed with the aim of renaming the city of Jalal-Abad to the city of Manas and is aimed at strengthening national ideology, giving the city of Jalal-Abad the name of the great Manas — a historical figure, folk hero, and defender of the Kyrgyz people from various invasions.
