According to the Office of the President of Kyrgyzstan, more than 10,000 of those in attendance were foreign visitors, including tourists and international students.
The concert took place on 18 October at the Bishkek Arena stadium. The office noted that the event drew attention to Kyrgyzstan and its potential for hosting international events.
Following her performance, Shakira posted photographs from Bishkek and thanked Kyrgyzstan for its hospitality. Her post provided a further opportunity for an international audience to learn about the country.
According to the Presidential Administration, the concert was organised in collaboration with private organisers, investors and partners. No funds from the state budget were allocated to cover the artist’s fee.
The office believes that such events contribute to the development of tourism and business, as well as raising Kyrgyzstan’s international profile. It stated its intention to continue attracting global stars and hosting large-scale events.
Shakira’s concert was the fourth major event at the Bishkek Arena. The department also announced the continuation of the modernisation of tourism infrastructure, including the ‘Ala-Archa’ and ‘Karakol’ nature parks and health resort facilities.
