Border checkpoints with China will be closed for one day due to a holiday

The Torugart and Irkeshtam border checkpoints on the Kyrgyz-Chinese border will temporarily suspend operations on May 31. The restriction is due to a national holiday in China—the Dragon Boat Festival.

The Dragon Boat Festival is celebrated annually on the fifth day of the fifth month of the lunar calendar. On this day, China traditionally holds races on long boats decorated with dragon heads, as well as mass celebrations and family gatherings. The holiday is dedicated to the memory of the poet and statesman Qu Yuan and is considered one of the most important traditional events in the country.

The movement of people, transport, and cargo will be impossible on this day. The border regime will resume as usual on June 1.

Travelers and carriers are advised to take this into account when planning their routes.
