Cuba expressed gratitude to the EAEU for demanding the lifting of the economic blockade

At the Intergovernmental Council of the Eurasian Economic Union, Cuba's Permanent Representative to the EEC, Julio Antonio Garmenia Peña, thanked the member states of the Union for their position in support of lifting the economic, trade and financial blockade imposed by the United States.

In his speech, he stressed that the unilateral measures taken by the United States, including the inclusion of Cuba in the list of countries allegedly sponsoring terrorism, remain the main obstacle to the socio-economic development of the island state.

The extraterritorial nature of the blockade, according to Garmenia Peña, also harms third countries that seek to maintain normal and mutually beneficial relations with Cuba.

The Cuban representative noted that despite economic difficulties, the Cuban people remain united, creative and willing to share their experience in various fields on the basis of mutual cooperation. He stressed that Cuba will always advocate dialogue and cooperation, building bridges where others erect barriers.

Thus, Cuba's statement at the EAEU Intergovernmental Council meeting confirmed the country's intention to strengthen international solidarity and develop bilateral and multilateral economic ties.
