09/24/2026, 09:21Kyrgyzstan has proposed that Chinese companies participate in the creation of joint industrial centers and that banks in both countries expand their direct correspondent relationships. These and other projects were discussed by Kyrgyz Prime Minister Adylbek Kasymaliev and Chinese State Council Premier Li Qiang at a meeting on September 23 in Hangzhou.
One of the central topics of the talks was the implementation of the agreements reached during Chinese President Xi Jinping’s August visit to Kyrgyzstan.
Kasymaliev identified the China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan railway as the flagship joint project and emphasized the need to ensure its uninterrupted construction. At the same time, the parties are discussing the development of the Barskoon–Bedel–Uchturfan–Aksu highway and the creation of infrastructure for the new “Bedel” border crossing point.
The Kyrgyz side also invited Chinese enterprises, including companies from Zhejiang Province, to establish joint production facilities in Kyrgyzstan and participate in projects within the “Tamchy” Special Financial Investment Zone.
Financial cooperation was discussed separately. Kyrgyzstan is interested in expanding direct correspondent banking relationships between commercial banks of the two countries, which could simplify mutual settlements for trade and investment transactions.
Another area of focus was energy. During the visit, the Ministry of Energy of Kyrgyzstan and the National Energy Administration of the PRC signed an agreement on cooperation in the electric power sector. The parties also discussed prospects for cooperation in the oil and gas sector.
In addition, Kasymaliev proposed considering the launch of a direct flight between Bishkek and Sanya. The proposal came amid China’s introduction of a visa-free regime for Kyrgyz citizens traveling to Hainan Island and transiting through China for up to 10 days.
Li Qiang, in turn, expressed his readiness to continue cooperation with Kyrgyzstan in trade, investment, finance, green energy, artificial intelligence, and the digital economy. Following the talks, the parties reaffirmed their intention to continue implementing the agreements reached at the level of heads of state.
