According to the National Statistics Committee, pawnshop revenues in 2025 amounted to 1.76 billion KGS, compared to 1.84 billion KGS a year earlier, a decrease of 4.4%, or nearly 80 million KGS.
The sector’s expenses fell even more significantly—from 812.6 million KGS to 740.2 million KGS (-8.9%). This allowed the sector to offset the decline in revenue. As a result, despite the decline in revenue, pawnshops’ profits rose by 3.1 million KGS, to 1.128 billion KGS.
The decline in revenue in 2025 may reflect the market’s adaptation to stricter operating conditions. This refers to tighter capital requirements and a gradual increase in the entry threshold for the sector. As a reminder, the minimum authorized capital for pawnshops has been set at 3 million KGS as of January 1, 2025; it is scheduled to rise to 7 million KGS in July 2026 and to 20 million KGS by 2028.
This, in turn, could also lead to a reduction in the number of market participants. According to data from the Financial Market Regulation and Supervision Service of the Kyrgyz Republic, over 50 pawnshops—or 11.3% of the total market share—have closed since the beginning of 2026.
