The Ministry of Energy will fully repay its debt of 137 billion KGS in 2026, says Sadyr Zhaparov

The Kyrgyz Ministry of Energy will fully repay its historical debt of 137 billion KGS in 2026 and will begin operating at a profit from next year. This was stated by President Sadyr Zhaparov in an interview with the state news agency Kabar.

According to the head of state, this is a debt that has accumulated over about 30 years. Now, as he noted, embezzlement has been stopped in the system, which has accelerated the financial recovery of the industry.

‘If the theft had continued, the debt would have continued to grow,’ the president emphasised, adding that when violations are detected, ‘there will be no mercy for anyone.’

In this context, Zhaparov also commented on Alexei Shirsov's participation in the meeting in Moscow. He stated that the authorities use the information provided to them exclusively in the interests of the state. In particular, this concerns negotiations on the debt to RusHydro for the Verkhne-Naryn HPP project. The initial debt of $37 million, including interest, exceeded $51 million.

The president emphasised that Shirsov does not hold and will not hold a position in the Ministry of Energy. However, if his information helps the state to resolve financial issues and recover assets, it will be used. According to Zhaparov, the key task remains the financial stabilisation of the energy sector and its transition to sustainable profitability by 2027.
