Eurasian transport corridors account for 70% of transit traffic in the EAEU

The Eurasian Intergovernmental Council considered the report for 2022-2024 on the activities of the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union on the development of railway, road and port infrastructure included in the Eurasian transport corridors.

“Eurasian transport corridors are the basis of transport infrastructure in the Union, ensuring the formation of a common transport space and the development of the transit potential of the EAEU,” said EEC Minister for Energy and Infrastructure Arzybek Kozhoshev.

Eurasian transport corridors account for about 70% of the volume of transit traffic in the EAEU, which emphasizes the importance of synchronization in the development of national sections of each country.

The report notes that in accordance with the adopted strategic documents of the “five” countries, active work on the development of Eurasian transport corridors and routes is carried out. At the same time, the EAEU states are taking measures to synchronize joint efforts to “expand” areas with limited capacity.

“Close trade and transportation ties between the EAEU countries contribute to the economic growth of each of them. Under these conditions, the importance of Eurasian transport corridors as a major factor in ensuring foreign trade is increasing,” Arzybek Kozhoshev believes.

The results of the analysis are planned to be used in subsequent work to coordinate the development of transport infrastructure in the EAEU.
