Almost $59 million was sold on Kyrgyzstan’s interbank market over the course of the week

From 17 to 21 August, the value of dollar-denominated transactions on Kyrgyzstan’s interbank foreign exchange market totalled $58.83 million. This is according to data from the National Bank.

The majority of transactions — $38.53 million, or 65.5 per cent of the total volume — were settled on the day they were concluded. A further $20.3 million was traded with settlement on a different date.

Friday, 21 August, was the busiest day. Market participants concluded transactions totalling $16.6 million, including $12 million with same-day settlement. This is 2.6 times higher than the lowest weekly figure recorded on Wednesday.

Trading volumes by day were as follows:

  • 17 August — $12.8 million;
  • 18 August — $9.93 million;
  • 19 August — $6.4 million;
  • 20 August — $13.1 million;
  • 21 August — $16.6 million.

Despite fluctuations in trading volumes, the value of the dollar remained virtually unchanged. All five trading sessions opened at 87.45 KGS. Only on 19 August did the closing rate briefly fall to 87.445 KGS, before returning to 87.45 KGS.
