A 750-metre tunnel will be built on the Bishkek-Osh motorway

Today, 19 June, construction began on a 750-metre tunnel on the Bishkek-Osh motorway.

The event was attended by Minister of Transport and Communications Absattar Syrgabaev,
Hideki Goda, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Kyrgyz Republic, Kotaro Nishigata, Permanent Representative of JICA in the Kyrgyz Republic, Tileq Tekebaev, Plenipotentiary Representative of the President in the Jalal-Abad Region, Taalaibek Masabirov, Deputy of the Jogorku Kenesh, and local residents.

Minister Absattar Syrgabaev noted that the construction of the 750-metre tunnel will be carried out using modern Japanese technology.

«Most of the main road connecting the north and south of the country runs through mountainous areas. In this regard, the main task for the ministry is to develop the road network, ensure the smooth transport of goods and passengers, and ensure their safety. As is well known, there is a high probability of rockfalls on the section of the Bishkek-Osh motorway where construction is starting today. The most appropriate solution in such conditions is to build a tunnel. The 750-metre tunnel will be built using modern Japanese technology. A contract has been signed with the Japanese company Takenaka Civil Engineering & Construction for this purpose», — said the minister.
