Construction of large tunnels on the Barskoon-Bedel highway has begun

Deputy Prime Minister Bakyt Torobaev has launched the construction of large tunnels on the Barskoon-Bedel highway in the Issyk-Kul region.

Construction work has also begun on the Barskoon-Bedel highway leading to the Bedel checkpoint located on the state border between Kyrgyzstan and China.

According to the project, construction has begun on two tunnels at the Sook and Ashuu-Suu passes, which are part of the main construction sites of the Barskoon-Bedel highway. The length of the tunnel to be built at the Sook Pass will be 5,340 meters, and the length of the tunnel at the Ashuu-Suu Pass will be 3,840 meters. They will be among the longest and most technically complex tunnels in the country's history.

Bakyt Torobaev noted that construction work began on the direct orders of President Sadyr Zhaparov.

«President Sadyr Zhaparov has set a clear task. Construction work must be carried out without delay, within the established deadlines and in compliance with the highest quality standards», — said Bakyt Torobaev.

The Barskoon-Bedel highway will include bridges, avalanche galleries, and barriers against rockfalls and mudslides. The total length of the road is about 150 kilometers.

Bakyt Torobaev inspected the progress of work on the entire route of the Barskoon-Bedel highway and gave a number of instructions regarding the timing and quality of construction.
To date, 287 specialists and 162 units of special road construction machinery and equipment are involved in the construction work. Four camps for construction workers have been built.
The Barskoon-Bedel international highway is one of the key elements in the development of the country's transport links. The construction of tunnels will save time, improve road safety, and strengthen the country as a regional transport and logistics hub.
