Intention to migrate of Kyrgyzstani citizens decreased to record minimum level

Kyrgyzstan has seen a record decline in the number of households with at least one migrant in the family. The share of such households decreased from 14% to 8%. This was announced today by Aibek Ashirov, Lead Economist of the World Bank, during the presentation ‘Monitoring of socio-economic well-being of the population’.

The number of family members considering migration has decreased from 14% in February 2022 to 1% in October 2024.

Changes in remittance spending patterns were also noted.

‘The share of expenditure on food has decreased (from 64% to 38%). Spending on housing (from 9 percent to 22 percent) and other categories related to improving quality of life increased,³’ he said.
