To support the KGS, the National Bank has already sold twice as much foreign currency as it did in all of 2025

Since the beginning of 2026, the National Bank of Kyrgyzstan has sold $1 billion 668.8 million on the foreign exchange market. Thus, the amount of foreign currency allocated by the regulator to support the som exchange rate is already nearly double the figure for all of 2025.

According to data from the National Bank of Kyrgyzstan, ten interventions have been carried out since the beginning of the year. The most recent one took place on August 10, when the regulator sold $196.2 million.

The largest intervention during this period took place on June 29, when the National Bank sold $222.55 million.

In 2025, the National Bank conducted 8 interventions involving the sale of foreign currency, totaling $853 million.

Thus, the National Bank’s dollar sales in 2026 already exceed last year’s total interventions by $815.8 million.

In terms of the average volume per intervention, it stands at approximately $166.9 million in 2026, compared to $106.6 million a year earlier.

The National Bank had previously stated that the main reason for the increase in interventions was the expansion of Kyrgyzstan’s economy. Demand for foreign currency is particularly high in the summer, when construction and infrastructure projects pick up.
