The National Bank of Kyrgyzstan will now also set exchange rates for the dinar, the dong and the bat

The National Bank of Kyrgyzstan has expanded the list of foreign currencies whose official exchange rates will be determined against the KGS.

According to a resolution of the National Bank’s Board, the following currencies have been added to the list of those whose exchange rates are calculated on a weekly basis:

  • the Bahraini dinar;
  • the Vietnamese dong;
  • the Thai baht.

The changes will come into effect on 15 June 2026.

Currently, the National Bank determines the official exchange rates of the US dollar, the euro, the Russian rouble and the Kazakhstani tenge on a daily basis. The exchange rates of the remaining 39 foreign currencies are calculated weekly and are used for accounting, customs clearance, tax calculations and statistical reporting.

The inclusion of new currencies expands the list of currencies officially quoted by the National Bank, which already includes the Chinese yuan, the UAE dirham, the Saudi riyal, the Indian rupee, the Japanese yen, the South Korean won and other currencies.

The expansion of the list of currencies comes against the backdrop of Kyrgyzstan’s growing ties with the Middle East and South-East Asia. One indication of this is Air Arabia’s plans to launch seasonal flights from Sharjah to Tamchy and Karakol.
