Over 66,000 hectares of land in Kyrgyzstan have been converted to organic farming

A scientific and practical conference is being held in Karakol on the development of organic farming and the implementation of plans to transform the Issyk-Kul region into the country’s first fully organic region.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, as of 1 June 2026, the area of land used for organic production had reached over 66,000 hectares.

The Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture and Processing Industry notes that organic farming is regarded as one of the key areas for the sustainable development of the agricultural sector. To support the sector, work is underway to improve the regulatory framework, product certification, the development of organic seed production and cooperation among producers.

One of the priority projects remains the development of the Issyk-Kul region as a pilot organic region. It is expected that the implementation of this initiative will strengthen Kyrgyzstan’s position in the organic products market and enhance the competitiveness of the domestic agricultural sector.
