05/21/2026, 10:26As of May 15, Kyrgyzstan’s gross international reserves stood at $9.082 billion, according to the National Bank of the Republic.
According to the regulator, reserves have increased by $478.9 million, or 5.6%, since the beginning of the year.
However, the National Bank’s own statistics do not confirm this growth when compared to the beginning of 2026. According to previously published data from the regulator, international reserves reached a record $10.17 billion in January. After that, reserves began to decline, falling to $8.64 billion in April.
The National Bank uses the end of 2025 as a baseline, when the country’s international reserves stood at about $8.6 billion. Compared to that level, the current figure has indeed grown by approximately 5.57%.
However, even after the recovery in the first half of May, the volume of reserves remains more than $1 billion below the January peak.
At the same time, new data from the National Bank show that in May, reserves began to partially recover after three consecutive months of decline. Compared to the end of April, their volume increased by $444.35 million, or approximately 5.14%, once again exceeding the $9 billion mark.
Earlier, “Akchabar” reported that Kyrgyzstan’s international reserves had begun a steady decline for the first time since May 2023. From January through April, their volume decreased by more than $1.5 billion.
