Kyrgyzstan has seen a decline in tobacco product exports, but prices have risen by 53%

Tobacco product exports from Kyrgyzstan fell by more than half between January and March 2026. At the same time, China has become the main new market, having previously not purchased Kyrgyz tobacco products during the same period.

In the first three months of 2026, Kyrgyzstan exported 1,289,600 units of tobacco products worth $206,200. A year ago, the volume stood at 3,017,400 units worth $316,200. Thus, exports fell by 57.3% in volume terms and by 34.8% in value terms.

China became the main buyer this year, with 1,120,000 units worth $184,100 shipped there. Last year, there were no shipments to this destination. At the same time, China proved to be the most lucrative market: the average price was around $164.4 per thousand units.

Kyrgyzstan has completely ceased exports to the US, Australia, Vietnam and Ireland. The decline in exports to the US is particularly striking: a year ago, 2,754,000 units were exported to the US, worth $289,200.

Exports to the UK also fell sharply — from 186,800 to 22,000 units, or by 88.2%. At the same time, the British market proved to be the cheapest: around $95.5 per thousand units.

By contrast, shipments to Canada increased more than fivefold — from 6,900 to 35,800 units. Exports to Belgium began for the first time: 99,000 units worth $10,000.

Despite the fall in volumes, the average export price of Kyrgyz tobacco products rose by approximately 52.6% — from $104.8 to $159.9 per thousand units.
