Natstatkom and UNFPA discussed key areas of cooperation

An official meeting was held at the National Statistics Committee between Chairman Baktybek Kudaibergenov and a delegation from the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), led by UNFPA Representative in Kazakhstan and Country Director for Kyrgyzstan and Turkmenistan Chinwe Ogbonna.

The purpose of the meeting was to discuss current and future areas of bilateral cooperation in the field of demographic and social statistics.

In his speech, Chairman Baktybek Kudaibergenov expressed his gratitude to UNFPA for its systematic and long-term support in strengthening national statistical capacity, especially in the context of preparing and conducting the 2022 population and housing census and the subsequent analysis of the data collected.

UNFPA particularly noted that our country was one of the first in the region to include a set of questions on persons with functional limitations in the census instrument, based on the Washington Group methodology. This was a significant step towards ensuring the completeness and international comparability of data needed to develop inclusive public policies and take into account the interests of all population groups.

Other promising areas of cooperation include preparations for the 2030 census using modern digital technologies and a national study on the rights of older citizens as part of the State Programme for Active Longevity for 2025-2030.

For her part, UNFPA representative Chinwe Ogbonna expressed readiness to continue comprehensive cooperation with the National Statistics Committee and confirmed UNFPA's intention to provide expert and technical support within the framework of joint initiatives.
