This was stated by Sergey Glazyev, State Secretary of the Union State of Belarus and Russia, Doctor of Economics, at a conference dedicated to the 10th anniversary of Kyrgyzstan's membership in the Eurasian Economic Union.
Despite the existence of a common market and agreed strategic priorities, many states still view strategic planning as an exclusively national task. As a result, the potential for joint research and innovation is far from being fully exploited.
«We could combine our scientific and technical bases, which would have a huge effect, but this is not happening», — he said.
He noted that without such coordination, the opportunity to implement comprehensive projects in the field of high technology and science, which could bring tangible economic benefits to all countries of the Union, is being lost. An example of successful cooperation is the Eurasian Network University, which brings together about 30 rectors of leading universities in the EAEU countries.
Without any administrative or regulatory decisions, the university is operating successfully, largely thanks to the enthusiasm of the Kyrgyz side.
He noted that the expansion of joint scientific and technical initiatives will not only stimulate technological progress, but also create high-tech clusters that will strengthen the industrial base of the EAEU.
To achieve these goals, it is necessary to strengthen coordination at the supranational level, include scientific and technical projects in the integration agenda, and develop joint financing mechanisms so that the results of cooperation bring real added value to the countries of the Union.
