Online loans have boosted the market: the number of microloan recipients in Kyrgyzstan has doubled

In the first quarter of 2026, microcredit organisations in Kyrgyzstan issued loans totalling over 23 billion KGS to the public. Around 807,000 people received these loans.

Compared to the same period last year, the volume of microloans issued rose by 23%. Meanwhile, the number of borrowers more than doubled.

The main reason for this growth was the rapid development of short-term online lending. Digital services have made it easier to obtain small loans, and microloans have become more accessible to a wider section of the population.

The highest number of microloan recipients was recorded in Bishkek, with the capital accounting for around 46% of all borrowers. This is followed by the Chui region with a 12% share, the Osh region with around 10%, and the Jalal-Abad region with 9.5%.

The growth in the number of borrowers indicates that the microfinance market in Kyrgyzstan continues to expand rapidly, particularly in the fast online loans segment.
