Compulsory Motor Third-Party Liability Insurance accounts for one-third of Kyrgyzstan’s insurance market

Kyrgyzstan’s insurance market saw sharp growth in 2025, largely due to the expansion of mandatory insurance types, including compulsory motor third-party liability insurance. According to official statistics, insurance companies’ profits increased 1.7-fold and exceeded 2 billion KGS.

There were 19 insurance companies operating in the country, with total revenues reaching 12.2 billion KGS, 83.6% of which came from insurance premiums.

One of the main drivers of growth was mandatory motor third-party liability insurance. It accounted for 33% of all contracts concluded—the second-largest segment after voluntary personal insurance.

A total of 3.4 million insurance contracts were concluded over the year. This is twice as many as in 2024. The main growth came from individuals, who accounted for 88.6% of all contracts.

The volume of insurance premiums also doubled—to 10.2 billion KGS. A significant portion of revenue came from voluntary business property insurance (25.6%).

Against the backdrop of market growth, insurance payouts also increased, totaling 1.4 billion KGS. At the same time, 23% of all payouts were for MTPL. This makes it one of the largest segments in terms of the burden on insurers.

A total of 33,400 insurance claims were recorded over the year, with more than half attributable to voluntary accident and health insurance.

Insurance companies’ expenses exceeded 10 billion KGS, increasing by 4.2 billion KGS. Despite this, the sector maintains high profitability.
