Osh to receive modernised wastewater treatment facilities worth €8.3 million

Today, 12 January, the Parliamentary Committee on International Affairs, Defence, Security and Migration approved a bill ratifying loan and grant agreements with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) for the modernisation of the first sewage treatment plant complex in the city of Osh.

The total funding for the project is €8.3 million, of which €4 million will be provided as a 15-year loan from the EBRD with a 4-year grace period at an interest rate of 1% per annum plus 6-month Euribor. The remainder of the funds will come from grant agreements with the European Union and the EBRD's special fund, the Green Climate Fund.

According to Deputy Minister of Water Resources Asel Kenenbaeva, the project aims to improve the efficiency of wastewater treatment and reduce the burden on urban infrastructure. Members of Parliament clarified the details of the loan terms and grant payment mechanisms, after which the bill was approved in its third reading.
