From figures to results: Kyrgyzstan launches public finance reform

A new public finance reform project has been launched in Kyrgyzstan — the authorities promise greater transparency, digitalisation and efficient budget spending.

The initiative was launched by the Ministry of Finance in conjunction with the Ministry of Agriculture, with support from the European Union and the United Nations Development Programme.

The project aims to reform public finance management: introducing international standards, digital solutions, programme-based and gender-responsive budgeting, as well as establishing a system for managing public investment.

Particular attention will be paid to funding infrastructure and the water sector. The authorities expect this to improve the efficiency of spending and the quality of public services.

The reform is being launched against the backdrop of Kyrgyzstan’s efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals — from gender equality to ensuring access to clean water.
