This issue was discussed on March 16 during a meeting between Bishkek Mayor Aibek Junushaliyev and Askar Salymbekov, president of the “Dordoi” Association.
The focus is on plans to build multi-level parking garages, which should significantly reduce traffic congestion in the market area and on adjacent streets. At the same time, comprehensive improvements to the surrounding area are planned, including fencing off the lake and creating a pedestrian zone.
“We are not against business; on the contrary, we support it. However, this does not mean that development should be uncontrolled. It is necessary to create comfortable conditions for both merchants and city residents,” emphasized the mayor.
A separate focus will be on strengthening municipal control over parking spaces. The mayor instructed that all parking zones within the market area be returned to the city government’s jurisdiction, followed by the implementation of a QR code payment system.
This is expected to streamline parking, increase the transparency of fees, and boost revenue for the city budget.
In turn, Askar Salymbekov, president of the “Dordoy” Association, announced that road construction work within the market area will begin as early as April 1.
